Sorry for the lack of updates recently.Work commitments have kept me away from the computer desk.I now have one at work so I am able to update when I have a brief moment between jobs. You can now e-mail me at Penn Autos on
if it’s work related. The Classic Car show has come and gone. There was plenty of people there on Sat and Sun having a good look at the car and the new CCSE video that was playing all weekend.Quite a few copies were sold and I got a couple of enquiries for work which made it a worthwhile trip. On the feature front a magazine from Canada called RPM Classifieds is doing a full feature on the Red victor 1 racing team. It’ll be in print and on the internet at www.rpmclassifieds.com .While your there visit their other site at www.cfscshootout.com which deals with street legal racing in Canada. You can post on their message board too, just talk to Chris or Trish Biro who run the both sites. They are very friendly people.Incidentally Chris runs a wheelstanding Mk1 Capri with a 302 Ford motor so he’s got an idea about British cars! It’s all go with the car over the winter,It’s booked in at JWRE in a couple of weeks for some suspension mods, also the engine parts are coming together quite nicely,Pete Knight has ordered everything and they should all be here before xmas. That should give me plenty of time to build it for the dyno test in February(which is going to be filmed). Also the fogger system has been sent to be flow tested so we can come out running for the Easter Thunderball. I’m really fired up for the new season after having had a good bench racing session at the CCSE shindig.Lots of bragging and boasting was going on,but it’ll all stop come the racing when we will see who is the man(or woman)……… Have a great xmas and see ya all soon,ANDY
Now that the season is over it's time to put the car on axle stands and do some subtle changes for next year with the help of long time sponsor Peter Knight of Knight racing services and Jon Webster of Webster race engineering.Today though I took the car out for it's final drive for this year, popping to the supermarket for some video footage for the CCSE video"Hardcore Street"(details available soon) and some photos for the Express and Star newspaper. The paper have promised me they'll do a better job than last time.......Going to the supermarket was fun,the weather was fine and It still amazes me how many people crowd round the car wherever I take it,nobody believes it's really a road car, until I drive off in it that is.............
Once again apologies for no news recently. My workload and trying to get the car sorted has meant late nights in the garage. The engine is now sorted, the reason for the bent valves is a combination of things all stemming from the new heads having way bigger combustion chambers. It now has a healthier compression, proper length pushrods and the rockers are centred over the valves. All in all it means I'm confident of having some performance back at the Doorslammers.I've also got some new nitrous ideas that I'll be trying over the weekend(hopefully I'll get more than 2 full passes!).If I do as good as I did at the last Doorslammers I'll be well chuffed. See ya all there...
As you can see this is the first update for ages.I knew I'd damaged the engine at the last meeting but I didn't know how much until I stripped it fully.Unfortunately(for me see pics below) No2 and 4 bores are beyond honing and will need reboring. The engine is now out, stripped and in the very capable hands of Knight Racing services, who will fettle the block and supply all the parts for the rebuild(again!).As mentioned on www.fbracing.co.uk news page the old heads are also damaged beyond repair(for me anyway),again Knight racing have come up trumps with a pair of Grumpy Jenkins Merlin heads. The problem I now have with them is that they're not ported at all and the exhaust ports are 3/4" higher necessitating a full on porting job(££££) and heavily modified headers. This will leave very little time before the next CCSE round so it's going to be panic stations once again!.And I had so many plans for the 2 month break too! Bugger.. See ya all at Shakey.(i hope)
Again sorry for the lack of updates,it's been hectic over the last few weeks. As you will have read on Fatty's site we are doing a little match racing at the UK Modified nats at Shakey this weekend. The F**D v Chevy battle recommences between us after Fatty's premature exit from the Excitement nats due to engine woes. Both of us are looking forward to a "tear up" for the 4 runs that are scheduled over the weekend! I have done some changes in the Converter and suspension department that I'm hoping will make a big difference to the performance (good I hope!)of the car. We'll see at the weekend. On a separate note thanx to everybody(almost) for their contributions to the message board, keep em coming.... If you're there over the weekend come over and say hello,if not I'll see you all in 3 weeks at the next CCSE round.Lets hope Fatty and I get a damage free weekends racing! Till next time
Sorry for the lack of updates but I've been very busy of late.Penn Autos is now very popular after extensive advertising and magazine features.I've also become a contingency sponser at SCR,It's good to put something into Drag racing apart from racing cars! As it's been reported on the FB's site I took the car to SCR to do some more testing.I wish I hadn't as the test and tune turned into a full blown meeting with about 150 cars in attendance. With only 2 runs, queues to the top of the pits and a track that resembled a skating rink( I wanted to go to Jon Websters test day at the Pod but work commitments have put paid to that idea!) there was no startline data to gather but at least I had a chance to test a big nitrous tune. Even though the car was spinning the tyres for at least a 100ft it still ran 160mph which I am pleased about.Let's hope for warm weather and a sticky track and the chance for the car to hook me into the regular 8sec zone. The T-shirts are now done and I will definitely have them for the Thunderball.Thanx to Mike at JCP Printing and promotions 0121 440 7919 who went the extra mile to make sure I had them for Easter(give him a call for your T-shirt requirements, the prices are very reasonable and the quality is as good as you will get anywhere)Sizes are XL and L and are £10 each.A bargain if I do say so myself ! That's all for now,see you at the Thunderball......... PS Don't forget to come back next week for the first race report of the season.
